Advise on what stocks to buy

A lot of my clients want to know what stocks to invest in and which ones I own. I’m very hesitant to recommend any stocks, especially the ones I invest in. It’s not that I don’t research and study the stocks I own, it’s just that I don’t necessarily buy them for the same reasons most other people buy stocks.

My father calls what I do prospecting, which is only partially correct. There are a lot of cheap stocks out there that may rocket to the top, but that is not my only criteria. My main reason for picking a stock is to support technologies that I feel are going to be the most useful in advancing the human race. “Wow, how very noble of you!” you say. I assure you it is for the most selfish of reasons. Mostly just because I want one. Gadgets, gear, toys, stuff that makes you say “Neat!” And, staying with that philosophy, I am hoping that lots of others feel the same way and make the value of that stock go up. That way when I sell off my shares I’ll be able to afford the product I had invested in. Perfect!

Another kind of stock I buy is in a company that is researching new technologies. These are the companies that, without investors, would fail (they usually fail anyway) and never invent or produce the gadget I want. The kind of ideas that most people think are silly or just plain impossible, like molecular manufacturing (nano tech for those that have not heard my spiel), or life extension products. Neither of which are very popular ideas with main stream society, but as you may have figured out, I’m not main stream.

So when someone asks me what stocks I think they should buy I don’t really know what to say. How bout I tell you some of the stocks I own and you can do some research on them yourself and then decide.

EMA – eMagin Corp. They make head mounted displays. Kind of like sunglasses that have little screens in them. (Update-Aahhhh! WTF! Those crusty bastards in management are paying themselves more than they are investing in their company! After a 10 to 1 reverse split I sheepishly bailed out of this stock. A great product, but a lousy company.)

NNPP – Nano-Prorietary Inc. A patent holding company that is doing research on Carbon Nano-tube based TV’s. (Better, stronger, faster than Plasma) (Update-Yea! Go NNPP Go!)

BPUR – Bio Pure. The make blood enhancement drugs and supplements. (Update-So sad. I had high hopes and it had great potential, but alas it was not to be. Dumped it.)

ZAAP.OB - Zap! Electric Cars. The only option for the future, and WAY COOL to boot! I highly recommend it as a buy. (Probably won't move much until the plant in China is complete or until the Zap-X comes out in 09')
